Renée Elise Goldsberry is a Tony and Grammy Award-winning singer and actress, known for originating the role of Angelica Schuyler in the musical phenomenon, Hamilton. Performing since she was a child, Ms. Goldsberry had an extensive Broadway resume and IMDb filmography prior to Hamilton, playing memorable characters in stage uatuctions such as The Color Purple and The Lion King and appearing on screen with roles on Ally McBeal, The Good Wife, One Life to Live, and more. She holds a bachelor of fine arts in theatre from Carnegie Mellon University and a master of music in jazz studies from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music.
Since her last Hamilton performance in 2016, Ms. Goldsberry has starred in the titular role of HBO’s The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks opposite Oprah Winfrey and in the hit Netflix sci-fi series Altered Carbon. She also had roles in two 2019 films, the family comedy, The House with a Clock in its Walls, and the independent drama, Waves. In 2020 the television network Peacock announced Ms. Goldsberry had joined the cast of Tina Fey’s upcoming comedy series. In addition to being an in-demand performer, she uses her platform to speak on the importance of leadership in the arts, recognizing its power in shaping broader cultural attitudes and the responsibility artists have in choosing what roles and messages to portray. Ms. Goldsberry was the keynote speaker of Wake Forest and the Oxford Character Project’s Arts of Leading Conference in 2019.
