The Program for Leadership and Character is invested in our community, recognizing that leadership requires integrating theoretical principles with the world of lived experience with all of its complexity. We situate our courses and programs in the experiences of students, faculty, and staff and seek partnerships with community members and organizations, which are often facilitated by the Office of Civic and Community Engagement and the Office of University Collaborations.

Examples of such communally engaged programming include our partnership with Salem College and the WFU Women’s Center in our virtual celebration of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, our Scholars’ field placements for their required hours of community service, and our partnership with Winston Salem State University for a Legacies of Leadership week that honored the 60th anniversary of the Winston-Salem sit-ins with a variety of educational and ceremonial events.
