The Leadership and Character in Medicine and Law Cohort
The Program for Leadership and Character in the Professional Schools at Wake Forest University aims to bring together a small interdisciplinary group of law and medical students to further explore professional identity (values, guiding principles, and wellbeing practices) through meaningful conversations and opportunities to build peer connections across disciplines.
This program is at no cost to students and funded through the Program for Leadership and Character. We ask that all interested cohort members plan to commit to monthly in-person gatherings, as well as a weekend retreat in Fall 2025.
- September: Optional Lake Retreat – September 12–14 2025 at Lake Norman (approximately 1 hour from campus)
Join us Friday evening through Sunday morning for conversations, relaxation, and time at the lake. Lodging and meals are provided.
- October–April: Monthly gatherings featuring a shared meal and discussion focused on topics related to professional identity (Dates/Times TBD)
Please email Lauren Iley-Spear at ileyspl@wfu.edu with any questions.
The Leadership and Character Medicine and Law Retreat

Join a weekend lake retreat with opportunities to build peer connections across disciplines while unwinding in a serene lake house setting. Meals and optional activities will be planned by the Leadership and Character Program with lots of open time to retreat your own way.
The retreat is open to any student currently enrolled at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Graduate Program, or Wake Forest University School of Law. Priority will be given to those who also apply for the cohort program, but students can apply for just the retreat.
