Demon Deacons have a lot to say about leadership and character, enough to fill up the fall issue of Wake Forest Magazine. The opening article by President Nathan Hatch elevates the marriage of intellect and character as the “soul of the Wake Forest” and identifies the pillars that uphold those core values. The Magazine also includes insightful interviews with Wake Forest faculty, staff, and alumni on leadership and character and tracks the “top leadership moments” at the university, documenting the great span of leaders who have graced Wake Forest, from Elie Wiesel to Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Program for Leadership and Character was the focus of an article that highlights the new Leadership and Character Scholars Program, shares a vision for the Program steeped in the history of Wake Forest, and identifies the seven strategies of character development that inform every aspect of programming. The article vividly captures why “values and virtues matter more than ever, especially at a University devoted to educating the whole person” (28).
