Bradley Burroughs

Bradley Burroughs is the Director of Leadership and Character in Academic, Civic, and Religious Life in the Program for Leadership and Character at Wake Forest University. In that capacity, he contributes to a number of initiatives, including by teaching courses in a variety of areas, such as a short-term study abroad course in the spring of 2024 entitled “Cultivating Character and Leadership on the Camino de Santiago,” where students hiked the ancient pilgrimage route. Another of his roles is facilitating the Leadership and Character Teaching Lab, which helps instructors across the university to integrate leadership and character content into their courses. One of his major responsibilities in civic life is to lead the Principled Pluralism Fellowship, an intensive summer fellowship that aims to help students develop the skills and virtues to work constructively across differences. He also hosts extracurricular discussion groups on a wide range of topics, including religion and spirituality. The author of Christianity, Politics, and the Predicament of Evil (Lexington Books, 2019), Brad holds a Ph.D. from the Graduate Division of Religion at Emory University, an M.Div. from Duke University Divinity School, and a B.A. from Allegheny College. Prior to joining Wake Forest, he taught at Allegheny College, United Theological Seminary, and the Graduate Theological Union. In addition to his academic work, he also has experience in broad-based community organizing and had a brief and undistinguished college basketball career. He has two children and enjoys hiking and mountain biking.
