Dr. Karen Bohlin is the Senior Fellow for Pedagogical Development for the Educating Character Initiative, Director of the Practical Wisdom Project at the Abigail Adams Institute and Research Affiliate of the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University. Karen’s work explores the intersection of practical wisdom and leadership for flourishing. Inspired by more than two decades of leadership in both secondary and higher education, she created the Practical Wisdom Framework™ (2022) and teaches an online executive education program: Practical Wisdom for Agile Leadership. An executive coach and consultant, she works in both K-12 and higher education, as well as with other formative institutions around the world. She also teaches courageous dialogue and the “schooling of desire” as formative pedagogies that nurture character and wisdom within the context of a liberal arts and pre professional education. Karen is author and co-author of several publications in applied virtue ethics including: Building Character in Schools; Citizenship and Higher Education; Teaching Character Education Through Literature: Awakening the Moral Imagination/Educando el Carácter a Través de la Literatura; Happiness and Virtue: Beyond East and West: Toward a New Global Responsibility; and The Courageous Dialogue Toolkit: Practical Wisdom for School Leaders.
