Wendell Dunn is the Assistant Director of Leadership and Character in Athletics in the Program for Leadership and Character at Wake Forest University. In this role he is responsible for providing leadership experiences to the athletic teams through workshops, retreats, discussion groups, and projects.
He attended Wake Forest University as a student-athlete where he earned his B.A. in Communications with a minor in Schools, Education, and Society and a Master of Educational Studies. Before joining the Program for Leadership and Character team, Wendell worked for the Wake Forest Football Program as the first Director of Player Development. In this student-facing role he was responsible for creating a meaningful student athlete experience while helping them transition to and from college. In addition to personal mentoring, he led the football team’s career readiness programming, utilizing the Office of Career and Professional Development’s existing Ready 7 Program to prepare student athletes for career opportunities after graduation. Alongside the director of football alumni relations, he led the Player Career Development mentorship program. After learning student athletes’ career interests, he connected them with networking opportunities with career connectors and supporters of the program within NCAA guidelines. Wendell also led existing football community service projects, including Hit the Bricks, Pump Up for Piccolo and Santa’s Helper, among others. With a passion for mentoring athletes, Wendell hopes to educate every Wake Forest student-athlete on the ways to invest in their successes through leadership and character development.
