Overview

Beginning in fall 2026, the Educating Character Initiative (ECI) will award grants to multi-institutional teams of practitioners and scholars across U.S. colleges and universities and beyond to form intentional communities organized around a timely concern, aim, question, or challenge in character education.

We anticipate awarding Communities of Impact (CoI) Grants of up to $75,000 for a one-year effort. Of the $75,000 available for CoI grants, applicants may request up to $50,000 for the main award and up to $25,000 for travel expenses. Outstanding CoIs will be eligible to apply for sustaining funds for work beyond the initial year in the form of grants for up to an additional $75,000.

For those familiar with the rhythm of our funding initiatives for institutional grants, please note this difference: we anticipate reviewing these grants on a rolling basis with announcements of funding occurring quarterly between fall 2026 and spring 2028.
