Character Commons will be an interactive hub for those engaged in character education, bringing together information about the people and efforts that make up the field, and creating a more visible picture of the community.
By bringing this work together in one place, Character Commons will make it easier to discover what others are doing and see connections across different efforts. The platform is designed not only to make individual work more visible, but also helps develop a fuller understanding of the landscape.
A Community-Driven Initiative
The Character Commons Platform supports a shift within ECI from an effort for the community toward a community-driven initiative. Rather than ECI serving as an intermediary, Character Commons creates infrastructure that allows the community to learn from one another and build relationships directly. In this sense, Character Commons is a platform for the community, built by the community.
As institutions join in this shared effort, Character Commons will provide an evolving view of the landscape of character education. As more of the work becomes visible, the community can develop a fuller understanding of its breadth, diversity, and range of approaches.
Character Commons will be a shared space, where institutions, practitioners, scholars, associations, and communities meet as equals to discover, create, and act together for the common good.
